--The description of eligibility requirements was clarified with respect to previous graduate education, work experience, and change in field of study.

--A statement was introduced to indicate that acceptance of a Graduate Research Fellowship is a commitment to be enrolled in an approved program of graduate study by the following Fall term.

--Guidelines for the use of Reserve status and descriptions of allowable alternate activities were provided.

--A description of cyberinfrastructure resources available to Fellows and recipients of Honorable Mention was provided.

--The descriptions of eligibility and application procedures for Interdisciplinary Fields of Study were reorganized and clarified to aid the applicant in routing their application.

Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP)

Synopsis of Program:
The National Science Foundation aims to ensure the vitality of the human resource base of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in the United States and to reinforce its diversity by offering approximately 1,100 graduate fellowships in this competition. The Graduate Research Fellowship provides three years of support for graduate study leading to research-based master’s or doctoral degrees and is intended for students who are in the early stages of their graduate study. The Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) invests in graduate education for a cadre of diverse individuals who demonstrate their potential to successfully complete graduate degree programs in disciplines relevant to the mission of the National Science Foundation.

Florida Renewable Energy Technologies Grant Program.

The Florida Energy Office is now accepting grant proposals for the Florida Renewable Energy Technologies Grant Program.

This grant program is designed to advance the already growing establishment of renewable energy technologies in Florida, such as hydrogen, biomass, solar energy, closed-loop geothermal energy, wind energy, ocean energy, waste heat and hydroelectric power.

Grant proposals will be evaluated based on a number of different criteria, including cost share percentage, economic development potential, energy efficiency and how the project fosters public awareness of renewable energy technologies.

Grants will be awarded at a maximum of $2.5 million per project. Eligible applicants include Florida municipalities and county governments, established for-profit companies licensed to do business in Florida, universities and colleges in the state, utilities located and operating within Florida, not-for-profit organizations and state agencies.

The deadline for proposals is Thursday, October 18, 2007.

Excellence in Green Building Curriculum Incentive Grants
The U.S. Green Building Council seeks to support new curricula that demonstrate significant creativity and advance educational experiences that focus on reconciling humanity with nature and promoting environmental health, social justice, and economic prosperity. USGBC will award up to two grants ($20,000 each) in each of three grant categories: (1) pre-K to 12, (2) community and technical colleges (two year institutions), and (3) colleges and universities. Proposals may include courses, activities, projects, and programs. Proposals are due on March 17, 2008.

Research Studentship in Sustainability, U Gloucestershire
Applications are invited for a 3-year full-time Research Studentship in Sustainability, to the value of £12,500 plus tuition fees. The Studentship will be associated with The Sustainability Institute at the University of Gloucestershire. The Institute supports research which will result in change outcomes and makes a contribution to social and institutional progress. In the context of sustainability, progress is defined as an improved quality of life for all which does not endanger biodiversity or productivity of ecosystems. It is expected that the successful applicant will register for a PhD degree, and so will already have or be undertaking a relevant MA. The closing date for applications is December 3, 2007

Are you ready to lead the CHANGE?

Oxfam America, an international relief and development organization that creates lasting solutions to poverty, hunger, and injustice, is currently accepting applications for the CHANGE Initiative, their national student leadership program. CHANGE offers college students, at US based campuses, entering their sophomore or junior year the opportunity to become effective social change agents. CHANGE Leaders are exposed to the international development issues that inform Oxfam's work, and apply their skills and insights to run Oxfam campaigns on their campuses and in their communities.

Applications are due on April 1st, 2008. Selected students are required to participate in a week long training in Boston, July 19-25, 2008, which is organized and paid for by Oxfam. Students must also implement an Oxfam campaign on their campus and communicate regularly with Oxfam staff about the work they are undertaking during the 2008-2009 academic year.
