This workshop - Saturday, July 7, 8:30-5 - is for any campus planner, organizer or administrator who is in the midst of developing and integrating sustainability as a core value into their campus planning process. Workshops outcomes include:
* An understanding of individual and campus impacts environmentally, socially and
politically and how that information can aid in identifying and informing
decision-making.
* The potential resources a campus can utilize in answering identified needs.
* What are the key pieces of the planning process.
* How to bring together key individuals into the planning process.

(b) The Case for Green Chemistry: Integrating Sustainability into Curricula and Campus
http://www.scup.org/annualconf/42/workshops.html

This workshop - Sunday, July 8, 8-12:30 - will utilize a field trip to Northwestern University's new undergraduate Organic Chemistry laboratory for learning about:
* The basis for green chemistry, its role in sustainability, its pedagogical impact,
and its integration into an undergraduate laboratory renovation design based on
sustainable design principles,
* A hands-on green chemistry practicum for educators wishing to adopt a greener organic
laboratory curriculum, and
* Adapting science curricula with strategies and tools used in practicing greener
chemistry and extensively student-tested laboratory experiments.

These are preconference workshops (workshop attendance only is
permitted) at the 42nd annual, international conference and idea marketplace of the Society for College and University Planning (SCUP):

Dear Climate Change Leaders:

As Floridians, we take pride in our almost 1,200 miles of coastline, our freshwater springs, and the national treasures entrusted to our care, such as Florida’s Everglades and coral reefs. These natural resources are vulnerable to rising ocean levels and violent weather patterns that can occur with global climate change.

To help protect our environment, this Serve to Preserve Florida Summit on Global Climate Change will bring together the brightest minds to Miami. We will begin working on Florida’s plan to explore ground breaking technologies and strategies that will make our state a national leader in this worldwide movement.

I encourage you to make plans to join us as we begin exploring how Florida can lead the way in overcoming this monumental challenge.

Sustainability Across the Curriculum Leadership Workshop
January 10-11 (Thurs-Fri), 2008

Emory University, Atlanta, GA

AASHE, the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education, is pleased to invite participation in a two-day workshop for faculty leaders of all disciplines who wish to develop curriculum change programs around sustainability on their campuses.

Through an intensive two days of presentations, exercises, discussions, reflection, and planning, participants will become familiar with the philosophy of change in higher education developed through the Ponderosa Project at Northern Arizona University and adapted at Emory in the Piedmont Project. Participants will also experience of range of workshop strategies, hear local experts, enjoy outdoor place-based activities, and dialogue with faculty from around the country as they gain help in adapting this model to their own campus. In a supportive and stimulating environment, workshop members will reflect on their own roles in the transformation of higher education. Readings and materials will also be provided.

These highly successful workshops are led by Geoffrey Chase of San Diego State University and Peggy Barlett of Emory University. Peggy and Geoff are editors of Sustainability on Campus: Stories and Strategies for Change, published by MIT Press in 2004. Peggy and Geoff have many years of experience leading these kinds of workshops and have helped more than 200 faculty on several campuses revise courses in a wide array of disciplines.

Workshop tuition is $350 for AASHE members and $390 for non-members. Tuition
covers snacks and lunches on both days of the workshop, handouts, materials,
and an evening reception on the first day of the workshop.

Applications are due by October 19, 2007 and are available at:
