Academic Majors/Minors Related to Sustainability
Another measure of sustainability education is the range of majors available to students that incorporate a focus on sustainability. Due to the variance within academic program majors, this is difficult to assess with precision.
In addition to the programs of study listed below, an informal survey of available majors revealed that Florida has an array of academic programs that include sustainability. These include Botany, Building Construction, Environmental Engineering Sciences, Environmental Science, Food and Resource Economics, Forest Resources and Conservation, Landscape Architecture, Natural Resource Conservation, Recreation, Parks and Tourism, Soil and Water Science, Wildlife Ecology and Conservation, and Zoology.
The creation of the School of Natural Resources (SNRE), and the degree programs SNRE has developed and successfully implemented also reflect a commitment by the faculty and administration to the type of interdisciplinary study that is essential to in-depth education on sustainability.
- An Interdisciplinary Minor in Sustainability Studies is offered by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
- The College of Design Construction and Planning is now offering an interdisciplinary major called Sustainability and the Built Environment.
- The Levin College of Law now offers a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Environmental and Land Use Law.
